While discussing matters relating to drills for soccer, I feel that both of us share the same platform, however I don’t doubt it much. Coaches like us have to go through a tough time whenever we are to observe and devise soccer drills.
Issues like generating maximum effectiveness out of practice sessions, making the parents an important part of the training regime to make sure kids stay disciplined even when at home, and taking care of the player’s fitness from all aspects.
This is a problem of lack of organized information. What is required in modern soccer is that no matter what, we stay fully devoted to the goals set. The fact that players must keep improving on the front of their soccer skills is another issue for which we need to keep our ears and eyes open. But there is little guidance on the matter.
Hence let me discuss with you a few tactics that are sure to address some of your queries. It needs no reiteration that the basis of any great team is strong players. Include a lot of drills that focus on utilizing their energy and builds stamina. They need to be good sprinters and at the same time dribble with the ball. As a result, it’s a good idea to create a drill that makes them run around with the ball. Believe and implement!
Organize your practice sessions ahead and then put them into action with great precision. Since the players don’t have much time to practice drills for soccer, it’s imperative to make full use of it. Implementing the training sessions will be much more fun when they are well planned in advance, properly documented, and clearly narrated.
Both you and your drills should be enjoyable. When kids laugh a lot and enjoy their sessions, you know that they are in love with soccer. Your success as a coach is dependent on this. A pinch of humor will keep their interest alive in the sessions and so the soccer exercises should be enjoyable.
If you intend to make the kids good at specific skills, make them practice certain drills again and again. Like all other games, soccer can be learnt only by practice. It must be ensured that they are using the right techniques while practicing.
If it is faulty, the results will be disastrous. In addition, the kids will keep practicing incorrectly which is a blunder.
Talking to the kids before and after a soccer practice session ensures the non-occurrence of such a situation. However, do not make these sessions very elaborate. Discuss the all important points and bring the session to an end.
If not, the kids will get bored and quite possibly feel de-motivated. Keeping it short and concise will do the trick.
